In this inaugural issue, we will offer a quick recap of the major senior amateur events that took place during the 2025 season. As we kick off 2026, our plan is to provide more comprehensive coverage with detailed results from the top senior amateur championships and similar competitions.

One last bit of housekeeping before we dive in. History was made at Oak Hills in the crown jewel of the 2025 senior-amateur golf season, as legendary career amateur Michael McCoy became the first player to win both the U.S. Mid-Amateur and the U.S. Senior Amateur titles. The Iowa native McCoy adds to an already illustrious career that includes participating in over 60 USGA championships, as well as captaining a victorious U.S. Walker Cup team in 2023 at the Old Course in St. Andrews.

A hot start in the championship match allowed McCoy to enjoy a 5 up lead thru 8 holes. He played steadily from there forcing his opponent, Greg Sanders, to do something special to turn the tides. Ultimately, Sanders ran out of holes and McCoy secured the championship 3&2, with a matching par on the 372 yard, par 4 16th hole.

In his first appearance, John Kennedy ran away with the 2025 R&A Senior Amateur after an impressive performance. Kennedy relied on accuracy off the tee and a strong short game to navigate the notable Herbert Fowler designs. The win capped an impressive 2025 season that also included a win at the Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship. John earned recognition as England Golf Senior Men’s Order of Merit Champion of 2025. The final tally of 277 sets the pace for lowest 72-hole aggregate score in the event’s history -from 1977 to 2019, the R&A Senior Amateur was played over 54-holes.
